Your first day at EIDM Paris
International student card
The ISIC card was created to remove barriers when studying abroad by reducing compulsory expenditure in a number of areas (including transport, insurance, shopping, visits, leisure activities, and more.). It therefore helps to make higher education more accessible to French students living in France, but also abroad and, of course, to foreign students living in France. Today, over a hundred of France’s leading educational establishments, including some of the most prestigious, have converted their student cards to the ISIC standard.
Social security for students is free
A contribution of 90 euros replaces it. This makes life easier for students. Here’s an overview of the most important information. Until the start of the 2018 academic year, students needed to take out special social security cover with a student mutual health insurance at a cost of €217. Since then, with the new student plan, they have nothing to pay. They do, however, have a different type of charge: an annual contribution of €90 for social, cultural and sports activities, etc. This amount is set by the law on student orientation and academic achievement. This plan exempts scholarship holders, refugee status, subsidiary protection and asylum seekers. A number of special cases are detailed on the https://www.ameli.fr/ website.
Registration for new students
For new students in higher education, there is no need to register for Social Security. If the new student wishes to be more independent, they can send their bank account details to their local CPAM. If students move house or change departments, they must contact their CPAM to apply for a transfer. With this measure, you will remain on your parents’ social security scheme. This does not mean that student mutual health insurers will disappear from the landscape. They will continue to offer complementary health cover, as well as protection cover for incidents on campus.
Re-registration for students
Students already enrolled last year will remain affiliated to the student social security scheme until the start of the new academic year. As with other students, they do not have to pay anything and must remain with the same student mutual insurance company, even if they have changed address. An agreement between student mutual insurance companies has been put in place to allow students to change regions. For those who are already students in higher education, they will need to stay in the student scheme for another year.
